On the eleventh day, we invite you to discover the flavors of Northern Thailand, where the Lahu hill tribe harvests wild tea plants in perfect harmony with nature. This robust tea reflects not only the tribe’s heritage but also their commitment to protecting the local forests and biodiversity.
From the hills of heaven
So dark the night. So intense the taste. The Lahu are a hill tribe whose name literally means “to drag favor from heaven,” a meaning that is certainly reflected in this tea. The leaves of their wildgrown plants are used to create a pure, rich, strong, and forestfriendly tea with enchanting notes of woody liqueur and a light black berry tone.
Monteaco (Chiang Mai, Thailand)
Founded in 2013, Monteaco’s teas are harvested in the mountains of Northern Thailand. They all come from tea plants that are grown in forests with other trees and live in balance with the ecosystem. Producing tea this way preserves forests and protects biodiversity while ensuring a sustainable, long-term income for local farmers.
Tea fauna: Researching tea as an ecosystem
In 2017, Monteaco established the “Tea Fauna” project, which aims to determine how tea plants affect biodiversity and ecosystems. To this end, information on the development of insect fauna in natural tea habitats is being collected with the help of local tea farmers across a large area of Southeast Asia, aiming to provide useful data for forest conservation.
Let the intense depth of this black tea enchant you, and experience how the flavors of nature and tradition come together perfectly.
